The Ena J. Person Map

Hullo! I'm ENA J. from the Philippines. She/her, Year of the Wood Pig. History professor and dispenser of lukewarm book takes and poetry recommendations. Massive oversharer. This is no ordinary map you hold in your hands.

( About )

Things I like

  1. My hometown of Cagayan de Oro, in the Philippines

  2. Ham-and-cheese-and-pineapple pizza

  3. The four-year journey towards my degree in AB History, Minor in French

  4. Younger cousins reading the books I recommend

  5. A time capsule in Manila that's set to be opened in February 2045

  6. Xiao long bao with just the right amount of soup that explodes in my mouth

  7. The feeling of utter disbelief that makes me put down a terrific book in the middle of reading

  8. Cary Grant movies (or just about any black-and-white movie)

  9. KitKat and Three Musketeers bars

  10. My decades-old collections of postage stamps, foreign money, and dangly earrings

( Books )

📖 I've been reading since I was two years old, and by now I've read from nearly every major genre that exists. I know my way around Greek, Roman, and Arthurian myths. Classics aren't exactly my strongest suit, but I've read my fair share of them and I'm familiar with who wrote what. The NA genre is my one guilty pleasure in literature. I enjoy the occasional relatively contemporary poem, usually something by Anne Carson or Ada Limón. And here are the books I've loved over the years:

♦️ FLY(ER) ON THE WALL is the blog I've been running since 2016, and it is my pride and joy. Here is the link to the blog, and these are the things I usually post there:

— Notes on books, films, TV series, music, podcasts, games, and other media I've tried

— Resources for historians, researchers, and educators

— Commentaries on Philippine politics

— Essays about history and other nuances of the human experience

♦️ Someday — not anytime soon but God, someday, when I amass more wealth than I genuinely need, I'd like to pour that wealth into putting up at least one of these establishments in Cagayan de Oro:

  1. REVIVAL HOUSE where young'uns can watch scheduled re-runs of classic movies; there would also be a game room, a mini-library, and a large hall for history lectures

  2. PUBLIC PARK where folks can freely come in to stroll, ride bikes, enjoy the scenery, and spend unpolluted, quality time with one another

  3. HALFWAY HOUSE or HOMELESS SHELTER where disadvantaged people can come in to clean up, temporarily rest, and get access to resources that could help them get a foothold in society

If you'd like to support my projects, every little bit counts!

If you'd like to simply buy me a coffee because you think I'm such a coolbean, that's also possible with the options below. Many, many, many thanks! ♥️
